Seasons Greetings. The end of the year is here and on behalf of the committee I would like to wish you all a safe and happy holiday season and I look forward to seeing you on the range in 2009. Congratulations to the various winners of each division and the respective grades. I would like you all to join me in thanking Oakleigh pistol club for their generosity in allowing us the use of their ranges and facilities through 2008 and into 2009. Also a huge thank you to the members of the committee for their tireless efforts in organising and running the club comps and their efforts in trying to find a new range. On a personal note I want to thank Markus Bohm for the beautiful pastries he made and brought to the Christmas party, he unfortunately had to go back to work before I could thank him. Pastries were a big hit and didn’t last long at all. I also want to thank Geoff Brown who just puts in, doing whatever is needed to keep the club comps running smoothly. Lastly and not by any means least, thanks to Nick DiLullo for running our safety courses and the wonderful spit he put on at the Christmas party. Finally I would like to thank you all for your continued support of the club. With your help we can survive and prosper in the coming year. |

Important Notice Attendance sheets. If you have not gained your minimum required attendances at the Calibre club comps, you need to send us your completed personal attendance sheets, these list your attendances at other ranges. You need to send us the original of your attendance sheet and keep a copy for your records. So as we can prepare and submit the club’s annual report to Licensing Services on time, we MUST receive your personal attendance sheet by the 31st January 2009. NO EXCUSES will be accepted. If you do not have your form to us by the above date your attendances will not count. Safety Issues. To make the club shoots a safer environment for all involved the committee has decided that all members will be required to have the appropriate holster and magazine holders to suit their gun and magazines. These need not be expensive items and there will be a grace period for the first couple of months allowing you time to get organised. Also your holster and magazine holders must be on a sturdy belt that is attached to your pants by at least 3 belt loops. (Strapping your rig around your waist over a jacket or jumper will not be acceptable.) All clothing will be required to be tucked into your pants. Also jackets will have to be removed while shooting. If you are shooting in Standard or Production division your gun and magazines must be behind your hip bones. If you are not sure about any of the requirements above contact me directly. Sign in and score sheets. To assist us in the preparation of the annual reports and the scoring of the matches, it is imperative that you write clearly and legibly. On the sign in sheets we need you to fill in all the boxes including the event schedule which is a number relating to the division you are shooting and the class of gun you are using. On all your score sheets I need you to: number them, write your full name clearly and the division you are shooting in. If you are shooting in open or standard division you need to write on all sheets if you are shooting MAJOR or MINOR power factor. If you are unsure ask one of the committee members. Search for a range update. We currently have expressions of interest from 2 builders about the possibility of building an indoor range and hopefully something will come to fruition with one of these individuals, however in the mean time we are placing advertisements in several newspapers, seeking expressions of interest for an indoor range or land for an outdoor range. VAPA Membership. VAPA membership can provide you with additional opportunities to get your minimum attendances. VAPA runs several postal competitions that Calibre Sports members currently compete in. Calibre has won for the last 2 years in a row in the Practical Standard and ICORE limited divisions, we also compete in the service 25 category. VAPA membership also allows you to shoot at any club Australia wide affiliated with Pistol Australia. If you are interested in VAPA membership it is currently $101.85 per annum and renewals are around November but you can join any time. Contact Livio Colbertaldo for joining and more information. IPSC Membership. Calibre Sports is affiliated with IPSC and a number of Calibre members are active in IPSC open competitions, travelling the state, country and overseas to compete. These competitions are open to all levels of shooter, you just need to be holster qualified and a member of IPSC to compete. IPSC Vic runs several open competitions a year including the state titles. Being a member of IPSC allows you to shoot the club comps at PPLA located at Eagle park, Little River. Membership to IPSC is currently $95.00 per annum and renewals are at the end of June. If you join after January it is a 50% payment for 6 months membership. Contact me directly to join or for further information. Safety courses. We will run 3 safety courses over 2009. These will be run on the days of the club comps on the following dates: Feb 8th, June 14th and October 11th . If you or your family and/or friends need to do a safety course book in early. The cost is the same as last year, $50.00 which includes the ammo you will need for the course. Holster qualification courses. We will also run 3 holster qualification courses during 2009. The dates for these are March 8th, July 12th and November 22nd . It is recommended that you use your holster in competition a few times before doing the holster qualification course, just make sure you tell the Range Officer that you are not holster qualified. The cost for the course will be $25.00 which includes your entry into the club comp. Please book directly with me. Applications for permits to acquire & new members . In an effort to better know what is happening within the club, starting in February 2009 the committee has decided that all applications for a permit to acquire must be tabled at a committee meeting before being approved. Also all new members will be required to meet with the committee prior to their acceptance as Calibre members.
